The water used on our Tamsui Campus, Taipei Campus, and Lanyang Campus primarily comes from rivers and is processed through reservoirs and public water treatment plants. The quality of this water is protected under the Taiwan Water Supply Act. The water goes through the following procedures from the water source (or reservoir) before it is used at Tamkang University:
◆Water intake: at the water source (or reservoir), raw water is pumped into a conveyance channel using a pump.
◆Water conveyance: The process of transporting raw water from the water source to the water treatment plant.
◆Water treatment: After entering the water treatment plant, the raw water undergoes processes such as mixing, coagulation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection to remove impurities and pathogens.
◆Water Distribution: Once the water has undergone treatment and disinfection, it becomes potable water, which is then distributed through pipelines to the end users.
Additionally, a small amount of rainwater collected by the campus buildings’ facilities is used for watering plants on campus. The total water consumption from treated river water supplied by the water treatment plant is 426.68 million liters (426,684 cubic meters). A small portion of rainwater is collected for use in irrigation, amounting to approximately 4,200 liters (4.2 cubic meters).
