Tamkang cooperates with non-governmental organizations or enterprises to achieve sustainable development goals through student volunteer projects, research projects, and educational development resources. The brief description is as follow:
1. The Cambodian non-governmental organization ECC School has been engaged in long-term sustainability issues dialogue and sustainable action development since 2019. During the winter and summer vacations, 15 student volunteers led by the economics department provide services.
2. Student Volunteer Project: (1) Ancient costume guided experience and situational guided tour project: Two emerging experiences will be held at The Mackay Hospital with local businesses and organizations such as Tamsui Church of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan, DengFeng Fish Cake, and HuWei Medical Center. (2) Large-scale Tamsui puzzle game "The riddler of historic sites": a customs clearance event was held at Tamsui Customs Terminal. (3) Developed "Cong-Ming(smart) fish crisps": cooperate with DengFeng Fish Cakes to jointly develop creative products, and use specialty products as the identification of innovation. (4) "The exhibition of Tamsui's stories : Exploring traditional paths" exhibition was held at the DengFeng Museum. President Tsai Ing-wen also visited and provided affirmation.
3. The Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs and the College of Engineering customized the summer course "Green Materials and Sustainable Environments" for the University of Western Sydney, Australia. This course is the Australian Government’s New Colombo Program to subsidize the school’s teachers and students to exchange in Taiwan. In addition to introducing the development and application of green energy materials, the students from the two schools have also learned about the construction process of reservoirs and dams, the application of water purification technology, and have a better understanding of the wetland environment and the phenomenon of the tsunami.
4. The service-learning courses in the 2018 academic year cooperated with 20 non-profit organizations or government enterprises to solve sustainable development goals through service-learning courses. A Cambodian Service Study Group was established to cooperate with the Chongde Culture and Education Foundation Cambodian Buddhist Academy to provide volunteer services for Chinese and computer teaching in Cambodia from students of this school to assist local students with Chinese translation capabilities and computer skills.
5. The "Diandian Cultural and Creative Studio" of the Department of Chinese Children’s Literature Research Office published Tamsui picture books through the University Social Responsibility Practice Project to introduce Tamsui; the Department of Chinese Literature’s professional knowledge service-learning course "Children's Literature " went to the Tamsui Chengde Supplementary class to accompany reading and taking care of the children after class; Professors of the Department of Information and Library Science set up "Tamsui wiki" to host 2 live broadcast series "The story of Tamsui River Basin" and "Stone Weirs from Tamsui to Jinshan Coast of Taiwan". Organized an event VR exhibition and completed a virtual exhibition with VR technology combined with old photos taken by Dr. Kun-Huang Tsai during his lifetime. Professors of the Department of Mass Communication recorded 8 teachers from Tamsui area schools with video, and formed the documentary "Annals of Excellent Teachers". A team of professors and students from the Department of History participated in the "Sino-French War of Tamsui in 1884" project at the Tamsui Heritage Museum in New Taipei City and led the public to understand the context of history through technological interaction. Teachers of the Department of Mass Communication organized a poster and themed book exhibition of "Tán lí lâi'' Local News Lab in Tamsui: Zines and Posters Exhibition" to connect with the local context of Tamsui and show students' observation and care.
6. The Department of Chemistry, in cooperation with the Chinese Chemical Society and the chemical industry, organizes Chemistry tours for various activities. The main service targets are students from nearby industrial areas and schools in non-remote areas and below the need assistance approved by the Ministry of Education, leading students to learn about chemical experiments and related scientific and technological knowledge, and improving students’ knowledge on how to make the earth sustainable.
7. The members of the X-ray Research Center mainly focus on the use of large-scale instrument experimental facilities, such as synchrotron radiation light sources and neutron light sources, to engage in research related to the earth's sustainable energy material science. This type of research is a transnational research project. The center also holds 1 to 3 international academic seminars and educational curriculum meetings every year. For example, the X-ray summer school held every year has students from Southeast Asian countries participating.
8. Professors from the Graduate Institute of China Studies and the Taiwan Network for Free Election (TANFREL) cultivate volunteers to participate in elections in Sri Lanka and Cambodia, promote a peaceful and inclusive society, and implement sustainable development; provide effective, responsible, and fair election system.
9. The Graduate Institute of Curriculum and Instruction cooperates with the international non-governmental organization Oxfam HK to implement a global citizenship education to fight against poverty-a collaborative course between universities and primary schools. A total of 16 teacher empowerment workshops were held in New Taipei City, 14 sets of curriculum teaching plans were developed, including topics such as a sustainable environment, right to education, and right to work. The innovative curriculum was implemented in 16 classes, benefiting a total of 372 students. A total of six learning results presentation conferences were hosted, and a total of 53 teachers participated.
10. The Global Service Internship Program (GSIP) of Tamkang University, with Southeast Asia as the core, encourages students to participate in a new type of internship with diverse social development. From June to August 2008, six students were recommended to travel to Malaysia and Japan for internships.
11. A project named "Experiencing Multiculturalism through ARC Mirror: a traveler's perspective" was granted by the Ministry of Education to the college of Global Development in 2019. Eighteen students were sent to the five South-Eastern countries to work with NGOs to provide service as interns.
