Tamkang’s clean energy measures meet the detailed indicators from 7.2.1 to 7.2.5, except for 7.2.6 since the university did not set up funds for reinvestment. The following is a brief description of the introduction of international standards, the implementation of the plan, and the affirmation of energy-saving performance:
1. Introduction of International Standards: Since the implementation of ISO14001 environmental management standards in 2003, the university has always adhered to the concept of "energy-saving and carbon reduction," and gradually implemented various energy-saving measures in accordance with governmental requirements. For instance, the construction of an energy-saving monitoring system on the Tamsui campus in 2006, the ISO14064-1 standards for campus greenhouse gas emissions verification in 2013, the introduction and passing of the ISO50001 energy management standard in 2015, not only have these effectively reduced the university’s electricity consumption, but it also achieved the goal of at least 1% of the annual energy-saving rate of Tamsui campus in the past five years; The university’s electricity bill has dropped from the highest peak of $91.26 million NTD per year to $70.66 million NTD per year in 2019.
2. Plan Implementation Management Test: To assist in the implementation through ISO international standards, the university organized the establishment of the "Environmental Sustainability Promotion Committee," with the Vice President of Administrative Affairs as the chairman, responsible for supervising, reviewing, and revising the effectiveness of the implementation of various energy-saving plans. Three campuses must propose new energy-saving plans every academic year and the implementation proposal to ensure efficiency.
3. Affirmative Energy-Saving Performance: Tamkang was awarded the "Corporate Environmental Protection Award" for three consecutive years from 2011 to 2013. In 2017, the university won the Silver Award of the "Energy-saving Benchmarking Award" from the Ministry of Economic Affairs of the Executive Yuan. In 2019, the newly completed Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center was completed and it received the green building silver medal which represents the government's recognition of the university's high efficiency in energy usage.
