I.USR Projects
◆Tamsui Good Life
a.Collaborated with community colleges to host World Heritage lectures to advocate for the preservation of cultural heritage.
b.Engaged university students, elementary school students from Tamsui District, and community volunteers in beach cleanup activities.
c.Operated the Little A-De Tutoring Class at the neighborhood office and organized various experiential courses, providing free tutoring and care for elementary school students in the community.
d.rganized community workshops, inviting community elders and children to participate in community renovation efforts, increasing community identity and improving the community environment.

d.Interactive tourism experiences, exhibitions, and lectures, developing diverse tourism models to guide visitors in experiencing in-depth travel.
e.On December 25, 2022, a real-world puzzle-solving event called “Goods Seizure” was held at the Customs Wharf and Fort San Domingo. By engaging in the puzzle-solving experience, the event attracted tourists to participate, allowing them to learn about the historical sites of Tamsui, the characteristics of the old street, and historical stories in a fun and immersive way, further promoting local development.
◆Agri-Food Education
a. In 2022, the Herb Walk App was launched, developing guided real-world games for all age groups.
b.Conducted food and agriculture education lectures and dining experiences in collaboration with local farms on campus. Launched a series of microcredit courses on the culinary impressions of the North Coast, involving faculty, staff, and students from both on and off campus.
c.Explored Tamsui District and Shimen District to jointly conduct courses that combine agricultural experiences and community co-creation on and off campus.
d.USR project of Tamsui-Yilan and North Bank of Tamsui River: On March 5, 2023, a Tamsui History and Culture Storytelling and Walking Workshop was held, taking participants from the old street to Fort San Domingo. The workshop aimed to help participants understand historical sites and interpret Tamsui's 400-year development history through songs. The event allowed participants to share and sing Tamsui's stories with laughter, recognizing and commemorating Tamsui's former status as the largest port in Taiwan.
e.Digitally Connecting Mackay & Tamkang Culture: On December 10, 2022, a special lecture titled “Singing Local Stories” was held to promote digital humanities work in Tamsui. By storytelling and singing local stories together, the event aimed to closely connect Tamsui and Taiwan's history, fostering a deeper understanding of the land where participants grew up.
II.Colleges and Departments
◆The Professional Competence Service course of the Department of Civil Engineering promotes scientific education in primary and secondary schools in the Tamsui area, helping middle and high school students learn about geography and surveying through group games.
◆The Department of Architecture collaborated with the “Tamsui Good Life” USR project, leading students in a local community environment construction project during the summer, which received high praise. This summer, the project moved to Yilan, collaborating with Yue-Ming Junior High and Elementary School in Suao Township. Through the hands-together approach, they carried out “Friendly Campus Field Practice” environmental education actions. A results presentation was held on July 15, 2023, to showcase the outcomes of the collaboration.
大手牽小手 共同構築友善校園 ◆The compulsory course “Library Professional Competence Service” for third-year students of the Department of Information and Library Science in the College of Liberal Arts, where students participate in practical training in various primary and secondary schools in Tamsui District every Monday morning and assist different types of community libraries, fostering interactions with communities.
◆The fourth-year elective course “Internship in Information Library Services” in the Department of Information and Library Science held the 2022 academic year results presentation on October 6, 2023. The event included various types of libraries, information service units, and related enterprises, providing opportunities to validate the theories learned in school through practical application. This initiative aims to achieve the goals of “cross-disciplinary diversity,” “fulfilling university social responsibility,” and “linking industry with cross-disciplinary internships.”
資圖產學實習顯風采 運用所學修復古籍 ◆On March 11, 2023, the Department of Information and Library Science held the “1st Information and Library Science Camp: Metaverse Interactive Light and Shadow - A New Reading Experience,” inviting high school students from grades 10 to 12 across Taiwan to participate. The camp trained students to use local cultural elements, such as Fort San Domingo and Tamsui, and integrate them with the metaverse to create unique technological works.

a.100 Sustainable Actions: Organized a beach cleanup at Zhouzi Bay on September 24, 2022.
風雨無阻 經濟系師生洲子灣淨灘 b,One-Day University Life Activity: On November 24, 2022, a one-day university life activity was organized for homeschooled students from Taipei City’s elementary and middle schools to experience a sustainable economics course (an annual camp activity). On December 1, 2022, a similar event was held for XingRen Elementary School in Tamsui.
c.Half-Day Camp: On December 27, 2022, a half-day camp was organized for students from Zhonghe Senior High School to experience a sustainable economics course. On May 30, 2023, the camp was held for students from Jingmei Elementary School, and on June 14, 2023, for students from New Taipei Senior High School.
d.“Smart New Economy Forum:” On June 2, 2023, industry experts were invited to give a lecture on the latest applications of financial technology in sustainable development.
智慧新經濟論壇開講 ◆On October 8, 2022, the Department of History organized the "Huwei Feast of the Sino-French War," where professors from the Department of History led students and residents to explore the history of Tamsui. Through a combination of walking & reading and a unique banquet, participants were introduced to the Sino-French War. This interactive experience allowed them to gain a deeper understanding of the historical events related to Huwei during the war, fostering a greater cultural appreciation and sense of belonging to Tamsui.
◆On November 12, 2022, the Department of History organized the “Art Seed Cultural Journey.” This event combined sightseeing with historical learning, allowing participants to personally experience the history of the land and enhance their historical knowledge.
◆Teachers from the Department of Russian served as instructors for the flexible learning course “Russian Language and Culture” at a high school, teaching the Russian language and introducing its culture.
◆On November 1, 2022, the Graduate Institute of International Affairs and Strategic Studies, College of International Affairs, held the “Tamkang Strategic Forum,” inviting participants from both inside and outside the university.
III.Professional Competence Service Learning Courses
The Office of Physical Education, Department of Information and Library Science, Department of Mathematics, Department of Education and Futures Design, Department of Chemistry, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Center for Teacher Education, Department of Architecture, Department of Aerospace Engineering, and Department of Japanese offer professional competence service learning courses. These courses involve conducting thematic educational activities on mathematics, physical education, science, picture books, foreign languages, environment, programming, and aerospace in middle schools, elementary schools, or communities, as well as participating in after-school tutoring to assist with remedial teaching. Related activities include:
◆The Office of Physical Education conducts physical education teaching in middle and high schools, offering courses such as Taekwondo and badminton. Our university students participate in community service during their spare time, instructing middle and high school students, giving back to the community, and enhancing their own abilities through the mutual learning experience of teaching.
◆The Office of Physical Education organizes courses on the spirit of sports volunteering and service, leading students to participate in volunteer services for the New Taipei City Wan Jin Shi Marathon and the New Taipei City Railway Marathon.

◆The Department of International Tourism Management conducts professional competence service-learning courses in Indigenous communities.
◆The Office of Student Affairs promotes the development of middle and elementary school clubs, with six student clubs providing services to six middle and elementary schools."
◆The Departments of Civil Engineering, Economics, and Risk Management and Insurance, as well as the Military Training Office, conduct educational outreach activities in communities and middle and elementary schools. They teach students about surveying and financial knowledge and enhance community awareness of insurance and national defense through lectures and activities.
◆The Office of Continuing Education organizes information sessions and workshops on the relevant laws and regulations of the promotion of private participation in infrastructure projects.
