11.4.9) Building on brownfield sites
Build on brownfield sites, where possible.

According to the resolution of the Campus Planning Committee of the university, no new buildings will be built in the next 5 years (2020-2024). In the future, if there are new construction plans for the Tamsui campus, the Taipei Campus and the Lanyang campus, priority will be given to evaluating the durability of the old buildings and moving towards the principle of space activation and reuse, that is, the reconstruction of the original site will be the main focus, and the non-permeable paving of the campus will not be increased, which can reduce the impact of the campus environment and avoid the waste of building materials resources.

In 2020, two faculty dormitories were rebuilt and renovated into student dormitories. That is a physical example of the revitalization of the existing building.

In 2020, the old alumnus house on the Tamsui Campus was rebuilt and renovated into the Gallery of Tamkang History & The Founder Dr. Clement C. P. Chang’s Memorial Hall for collecting, maintaining, and displaying precious documents and artifacts of the university. The gallery is open to all school members and the general public for free visits. 校史館

In 2021, the old principal office building was rebuilt and renovated into a campus restaurant. During the rebuilding, existing structures were maintained to their fullest to avoid resource waste.

An overall revitalizing plan of the student dormitories, "Next Step, New East Village," aims to create a multi-purpose space that can enhance the quality of student accommodation and strengthen learning links through the renovation of campus space and the addition of space facilities. The project has been approved by the Ministry of Education to receive a full subsidy of NTD 88.6 million. 下一步 新東村
